About New York Restoration Project
New York Restoration Project (NYRP) is a non-profit organization founded by Bette Midler in 1995 to restore parks, community gardens and open space in underserved communities throughout New York City. They are driven by the conviction that all New Yorkers deserve beautiful, high-quality public open space. NYRP is the only New York City conservancy that works citywide, bringing private resources to spaces that lack adequate municipal support.
NYRP’s Work Improving NYC
Since 1995, NYRP has removed over 2,000 tons of garbage; acquired 52 community gardens; revitalized more than 400 acres of public land including Fort Tryon Park; restored and re-opened New Leaf Restaurant & Bar; transformed an illegal dumping ground into the five-acre Swindler Cove Park; and is the lead partner of Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s PlaNYC program MillionTreesNYC alongside NYC Parks.
